:: LEGAL SYSTEM

The legal system in Egypt is well established. It is recommended that arbitration is included in any agreement. A distinction between civil and criminal courts exists in Egypt :

•  Summary Courts, which deal with low value matters, urgent matters and individual matters,

•  Courts of First Instance which handle labor and commercial issues and appeals from the Summary Courts,

•  Courts of Appeal, which are situated in the main cities and will effectively, resolve a re-hearing of the matter for appeals from the Courts of First Instance,

•  Court of Cassation that handles further appeals on points of law only,

•  Constitutional Court to whom final appeals may be made. This court also reviews administrative decisions and regulates the constitutionality of laws and sub-ordinate legislation.

A separate structure under the Council of State exists for resolving administrative disputes involving Government agencies and Ministries.

The Shura Council also exists as a consultative body to the People's Assembly and the Government in legislative and policy-making matters.
